Big Reach Fall 2018 Projects—by Lori Carlson

We started fall Big Reach projects in October with:

  • 10 people fill snack packs for the seniors at Wolfway
  • 7 people deliver those snack packs to Wolfway
  • 10 people paint wooden crosses to give away for garden crosses
  • 6 people pick up trash at the Casey’s intersection

Below is the lay-out of projects planned for November and December. We want our projects to continue to be intergenerational and we would like as many people to participate in at least one project during the Sept.-April timeframe. Sign up for all projects is in the Fell Hall at the Big Reach display.

  • Middle School Sausage and Pancake Supper: Sat., Nov. 10th, pick a shift. Ages: 4thgrade-adults. Help the school by flipping pancakes, washing tables, serving second helpings, taking out the trash, or being a cashier for their biggest fundraiser of the year. You can sign up on your own or we will help you pick a shift during the end of October.
  • Organization and delivery of Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes: Week of Nov. 14-18, late afternoon or evening. Ages: all ages with grades 5thand under having adult supervision. check the boxes for items not allowed, rubberband them and then help deliver them to East Peoria collection center. Specific date and time will be coordinated with those who sign up.

  • Morton Midwest Food Bank: Saturday, Dec. 9, 9:30-11:30am Ages 6thgrade-adults (due to food bank’s guidelines.) We will pack boxes of food or break large quantities into family size servings. Every bit of volunteer help allows the food bank to get their donations to those who need it most. We will meet at the church at 9am, work from 9:30-11:30am and have the option of getting lunch out afterwards for those interested.
  • Operation Dee-Mack Child Deliveries: Approximately Dec. 9-10, date to be announced. All ages with 5thgrade and under with adult supervision. Our church will be shopping for the kids in our school district who need Christmas gifts. This group will deliver the gifts to the community center for the distribution date.
  • Community Center Christmas Cookies: Wed., Dec. 12th. All ages with grades 5thand under needing adult supervision. We will bake and decorate Christmas cookies for the community center’s clients so that those in need have homemade treats for the holidays.
