Big Reach Winter Projects 2019 Projects

January Projects:

 

Kleenex & Mint Drive

What: Donate boxes of tissues and bags of wintergreen or peppermints for the high school classes at Dee-Mack

Why: tissues are not provided for classrooms and they are not donated by parents the way they are in the lower grades. During cold and flu season a load of tissues and mints would be a great way to say MUMC cares.

Collection: Sun., Jan. 6- Sun., Feb. 10

Drop-off location: tubs at all MUMC entrances

Delivery Date: week of Feb. 10---See Ashton Stimson if you would like to help.

 

Snack Packs for Wolfway

What: Fill bags with food items and then go with a group to deliver those items to the 24 apartments at Wolfway

When: 2Mondays in January at 10:15am

Why: we are building relationships with the residents through continued contact

 

February Projects:

Loaves & Fish—Worship & Visit

What: serve lunch to the homeless at downtown Peoria First UMC

Jobs: prep and serve food, wash tables, scrap trays, pour drinks, wash dishes

When: Sat., Feb. 2nd, 9:30am-1:30pm

Carpool: meet at the church at 8:45am to carpool to Peoria First UMC

Wear: your Big Reach shirt, comfortable shoes

Ages: Students 7thgrade and older through adults (First UMC’s guidelines)

Why: To provide help to a church whose mission is to feed the hungry

 

Valentine Card Signing for Shut-ins or those in Need

What: reach out with a sentence or note to those who are unable to join us. We will provide the supplies to make a card or just sign a card that is made.

When: Sun., Feb. 3rd, 10:20-11:00am after worship

Ages: Ages 6thgrade through adults; Kids 5thgrade will be doing their own project in Sunday School.

Why: To provide connection for those who need it most. It is one more way of putting our vision in action—Jesus: love Him, serve Him, share Him.

March Projects:

 

Painting Garden Crosses

What: paint 12” wooden crosses to be given out at Easter

When: Sun., Mar. 17thfrom 10:30-11:30am in church basement

Ages: 6th grade through adults

 

Dick Thierry’s 40 Days of Lent Food Collection

What: in memory of Dick Thierry, we are going to repeat Dick’s challenge to collect 40 items of food during the 40 days of Lent to donate to our Mackinaw Community Center Food Pantry. Collection Point is by the Big Reach Table in the Fell Hall.

When: Sun., Mar. 3rd-Apr. 14th. We will stock the pantry later in April.
